LAUREN FOSTER – BIO • Director (LGBTQ and Concierge Services) – University of Miami Health System • Actress –Real Housewives of Miami (Season 2 & 3) Bravo TV - “MADE TO MODEL” Logo TV, ‘MISS AMERICA COMMITS SUICIDE", “INTERNATIONAL STAR” & "FACES", films by Joseph Lally, “CIRCUIT” a film by Dirk Shafer • VOGUE model • VARIETY MAGAZINE – 2019 Woman of Empowerment Award When Lauren Foster appeared in a 5-page spread in an issue of VOGUE Mexico people assumed she was just another girl. Little did they, or even the editors, know she wasn’t. She was born in Durban, South Africa, assigned male at birth. While she’s one of the world’s most recognized transgender women and one of the first to appear in VOGUE, she really does prefer to think of herself as just another girl. Foster describes herself as fun, exciting, reckless, adventurous and a risk taker. Anyone who saw her on Real Housewives of Miami, the first transgender woman to appear on the franchise as a season regular, would agree. In 2018 she was honored as a pioneer by LOGO TV and PAPER Magazine in their documentary “MADE TO MODEL”, which was nominated for a GLAAD MEDIA award. She’s also proven herself as an actress in Circuit and Joseph Lally’s provocative and artistic films, Faces, International Star and Miss America Commits Suicide. Additionally, for over a decade she worked with Jeffrey Sanker, the most powerful promoter in the underground party circuit, and went on to manage DJ Paolo, DJ Tracy Young and tour with superstar performer Grace Jones. No matter what path she takes, there never seems to be a challenge too big. At 18, she fully transitioned and never looked back. In 2016 she launched her own Blog, Justanothergirl.org , which she equates to Allure or New Beauty magazine for trans women, which offers the same care and guidance she had. With an overwhelming amount of information on the Internet — some inaccurate and outdated — Foster says her blog contains all of the best resources for those thinking of transitioning, in the process of doing so and the encouragement for every step along the way. With no graphic content, it’s also a place where young people can visit and find answers to their questions. As part of her work with the Miami Leadership Council, transgender model Lauren Foster worked with GLAAD to raise visibility for transgender Americans. In 2015 she filmed a PSA for the Trans People Speak video series, a project of the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition which is sponsored by GLAAD. "Lauren is a passionate and smart woman who has not only helped our organization, but our entire community," said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick. "We are thrilled to work with her going forward in an effort to raise visibility for transgender people." In her most recent incarnation, Foster joined the executive team at the University of Miami Health system as Director of LGBTQ and Concierge services in April of 2014 when UMH launched their Gender Program. She works with patients from all over the world who come to the University of Miami Hospital for world class surgical and medical procedures. She has found her calling as an ally to the patients she sees, adding value to patients’ lives, honoring the patient and families perspectives and choices. Foster presents her take on life as a trans woman in the workplace and shares her life story frequently in talks and lectures nationally. Her presentations are essential in the education of Diversity and Inclusion with executive leaders, medical residents and corporate retreats. She was recently honored by VARIETY Magazine as 2019’s Woman of Empowerment for this work at UM. A first for a trans woman. In celebration of WorldPride and the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, New York based Art photographer, Courtney Charles, photographed Foster as the original Barbie in the Trans Barbie Series that debuted at The Phluid Project. Miami Beach Commissioner Alex Fernandez acknowledged Foster for her activism and declared November 30th “Lauren Foster Day”. Commissioner Fernandez also announced that Foster will be his appointee to the LGBTQ Advisory Board for Miami Beach. “Before most people had ever even heard of the transgender community, there was Lauren in the pages of VOGUE, already reshaping what it means to be a beautiful woman. Lauren Foster continues to be a remarkable trailblazer on the path to equality and I am left both humbled and honored to call her my friend." - Herndon Graddick, President of GLAAD
