Cockman, MPH, MPA Project Manager (PM) EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW Mr. Cockman is a seasoned bilingual (Spanish/English) health communications professional with 20 years of experience in strategic planning and message development. He has served as project manager, strategic counsel, and messaging strategist for an array of federal health agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and state health departments. Mr. Cockman helps public health practitioners and health communicators conceptualize ideas and bring those ideas to life through evidence-based research and participatory-based communications techniques that promote better health outcomes for individuals and communities. He brings deep, substantive expertise in communication in many subject matter areas across the spectrum of public health and science, including cancer, heart disease and blood disorders/diseases, antibiotic resistance, sepsis, infection prevention and control, HIV and AIDS, and LGBTQIA+ health disparities. Mr. Cockman worked closely with former NCI director, Dr. Ned Sharpless, his executive team, and OCPL to develop NCI’s key areas of focus and messaging on basic science, big data, clinical trials, workforce development, and health disparities. Get Ahead of Sepsis and Be Antibiotics Aware Campaign, CDC, 2017–2019 Senior Messaging Strategist and Health Writer. Mr. Cockman developed the messaging platforms for CDC’s inaugural sepsis campaign and rebranded the antibiotics use campaign. He worked closely with the project managers and ICF’s design professionals to develop an online toolkit and suite of materials to explain an often-misunderstood topic to patients, as well as an array of healthcare professional audiences (e.g., emergency medical services, physician assistants, nurses, emergency department doctors, general practitioners, urgent care doctors).
