Information Sheet for Transportation, Parking, & Bicycle-Pedestrian
Facilities Committee
Summary Statement: As a biker, pedestrian, runner, and motorist, I am very
interested in the transportation issues of our city.
Residence: Since 2003, I have been a full-time resident of Miami Beach. I was
a long-time resident of the West Avenue Neighborhood with my partner
Michael Grouws. We moved from West Avenue to Belle Isle two years ago.
Education:
Montana State University Billings – BA Business Management
Employment History:
United Parcel Service (UPS) - Employed by UPS for 25 years. I held many
management positions throughout my transportation career at UPS, including
Industrial Engineering, Loss Prevention, Customer Service, and Hub Sorting &
Package Delivery Operations. My last position was as an Operations Division
Manager responsible for hub sorting and package delivery operations for the
state of Wyoming and parts of Montana. I retired (early) in 2001.
Principal Government and Civic Activities in Miami Beach
Member Board of Directors of The Waverly at South Beach (1330 West
Avenue) Condominium Association 2006-2010
Founding Board of Directors Member of West Avenue Neighborhood
Association (WAvNA). 2011-2022
As a resident worked with Jose Gonzales, Director of the Miami Beach
Transportation Department, to get the first protected bike lane in Miami-Dade
County installed on West Avenue.
As a resident, I worked with Deco Bike and Citi Bike Miami Beach to install
new and expand many ride-share stations throughout the West Avenue &
Belle Isle Neighborhoods.
As a resident, I worked with Miami Beach Transportation Department to
convert traffic signals to utilize the Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI)
enhanced safety feature throughout the West Avenue neighborhood. This
safety feature activates the Walk Signal a few seconds prior to the traffic light
changing to allow pedestrians to safely enter the crosswalk.
As a resident, I worked with the Public Works & Green Space Management
Department to design landscaping along the pedestrian walkway adjoining
the West Avenue Pedestrian Bridge. Previously to this landscaping design, the
plan was to asphalt the area. Now the area is fully landscaped with a tree
canopy enhancing the pedestrian experience between West Avenue & Belle
Isle neighborhoods.
As a resident, I worked with Miami Beach Transportation Department to
install the first bike box in Miami Beach at 17th & West Avenue. This
enhances bicycle safety for all cyclists traveling to/from Miami and Miami
Beach.
