Application For Art In Public Places Committee,
The City Of Miami Beach
Re: Special Abilities, Knowledge And Experience
Gina Rosenblum
(773) 383-5565
Miami Beach, FL
I am applying for the position on the Art In Public Places Committee (AIPP) because
of my very broad fine-art visual arts education and extensive personal and work
experience in Public Art. My experience gives me a unique understanding of the
meaning of works of art on a historical, philosophical, aesthetic, intrinsic, and abstract
level when selecting works of art for public spaces and settings. These works may be
avant-garde, radical, shocking and disturbing. They can push boundaries and ideas
with outlandish subject matters and materials with their own unique styles. Sometimes
using computers, kinetic motion, sound or the newest technology, sometimes involving
all our senses, and sometimes using traditional figurative, realism and other styles or
combinations of styles. My understanding of artistic creativity, originality, intention, and
perceiving artwork's uniqueness and longevity, well beyond our time, makes me
perfectly suited and a great candidate for the position on the Committee. Most
importantly, it's about having a vision for the future of how artworks, monumental and
otherwise, can define and bring great vitality to Miami Beach, and create a stimulating
and diverse cultural environment for its community, and its people.
I bring to AIPP my experience working with well established, local and up-and-
coming diverse artists, and my understanding of the intricacies of installing artworks
involving various media, materials, structures, necessary engineering and perceiving
the uniqueness of the environment, space, architecture, and placement of artworks. My
understanding of the public/private sector, negotiations, finance, and bringing and
bridging diverse people will bring to the AIPP the tools necessary to bring the most
amazing Artworks to the masses of Miami Beach by uplifting and raising the value,
tourism, and identifying the city through its unique renowned Artworks.
It is crucial to be able to identify and choose great local artists and artists from
around the world, and art works, be they iconic outdoor monumental pieces, or works
for small, intimate indoor spaces. It takes knowledge, capability, research, hard work,
time, and energy which I have and intend to devote. I will be committed to doing a
great job, with my love of the City with its diverse people, its magnificent profile and
landscape, its unique vibrancy, and my commitment to Public Art, to bring truly the
very best ART to the City, and usher, together with many other City projects, a new Era
for Miami Beach.
