A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY
ADMINISTRATION TO INSTALL UPLIGHTING ON THE PALM TREES
LOCATED ON THE STRETCH OF ESPANOLA WAY BETWEEN
WASHINGTON AVENUE AND COLLINS AVENUE TO FURTHER
BEAUTIFY THE AREA, AS SOON AS REASONABLY FEASIBLE, AND
TO INSPECT AND ENSURE THAT ALL THE EXISTING WRAP-
AROUND LIGHTING ALONG ESPANOLA WAY IS FUNCTIONAL; AND
WAIVING, BY 5/7TH VOTE, THE REQUIREMENT IN SECTION 2-
14(D)(1)A OF THE CITY CODE TO REFER ANY AGENDA ITEMS IN
EXCESS OF $75,000 TO FINANCE AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCY
COMMITTEE.
WHEREAS, Espanola Way is one of Miami Beach's most beloved streets,
drawing both residents and visitors to its vibrant collection of restaurants, shops, and
businesses that contribute to the unique character of the City; and
WHEREAS, the existing wrap-around LED lighting on palm trees along the
Espanola Way promenade has been positively received by the community, enhancing
the ambiance and charm of the area; and
WHEREAS, however, the Mayor and City Commission recognize the opportunity
to further beautify the stretch of Espanola Way between Washington Avenue and
Collins Avenue by installing uplighting to illuminate the crowns of the palm trees, adding
a distinctive and attractive visual element; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission wish to direct the City
Administration to install uplighting to illuminate the palms' crowns to further beautify the
specified Espanola Way area, as soon as reasonably feasible, and to inspect and
ensure that all the existing wrap-around lighting along Espanola Way is functional; and
WHEREAS, to expedite this enhancement, the Mayor and City Commission wish
to waive, by 5/7th vote, the requirement in Section 2-14(d)(1)a of the City Code to refer
any agenda items in excess of $75,000 to Finance and Economic Resiliency
Committee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby direct the City Administration to install uplighting on the palm trees
located on the stretch of Espanola Way between Washington Avenue and Collins
Avenue to further beautify the area, as soon as reasonably feasible, and to inspect and
ensure that all the existing wrap-around lighting along Espanola Way is functional; and
waive, by 5/7th vote, the requirement in Section 2-14(d)(1)a of the City Code to refer
any agenda items in excess of $75,000 to Finance and Economic Resiliency
Committee.
