A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO TAKE ALL
NECESSARY STEPS, INCLUDING ENGAGING A CONSULTANT, IF
NECESSARY, TO APPLY FOR ANY AND ALL AVAILABLE STATE AND
FEDERAL GRANTS TO SUPPORT THE CREATION OF A WATER TAXI
SERVICE BETWEEN MIAMI BEACH AND MIAMI,AND TO COORDINATE WITH
THE APPROPRIATE STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES TO IDENTIFY
FUNDING SOURCES TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SERVICE;
AND FURTHER, DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO PROVIDE MONTHLY
UPDATES VIA LETTER TO COMMISSION (LTC) TO THE CITY COMMISSION
ON THE PROGRESS OF THESE EFFORTS, INCLUDING THE STATUS OF
GRANT APPLICATIONS, THE IDENTIFICATION OF POTENTIAL FUNDING
SOURCES, AND ANY STEPS TAKEN TO SECURE THE NECESSARY
FINANCIAL RESOURCES FOR THIS INITIATIVE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has long been committed to enhancing its
transportation infrastructure and exploring innovative solutions to improve mobility for residents,
visitors, and businesses; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of a water taxi service between Miami Beach and Miami
has been identified as an important step toward enhancing connectivity, reducing traffic
congestion, and promoting sustainability; and
WHEREAS, the sponsor of this Resolution previously sponsored Resolution No. 2023-
32645, pursuant to which the Mayor and City Commission directed the City Administration to
accept the recommendation of the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee, at
its May 23, 2023 meeting, recommending that the City Administration, among other things, study
the feasibility of developing a new dock and the various components of such a development,
including the cost, potential funding sources, and the availability of state and federal grants for a
local match; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission, at its October 30, 2024 meeting, adopted
Resolution No. 2024-33352,which directed the Administration to develop a Request for Proposals
(RFP)for the establishment of a water taxi service between one or more locations in Miami Beach
and one or more locations in Miami, and to present the draft RFP for approval by the City
Commission prior to issuance; and
WHEREAS,the City Commission recognizes the importance of pursuing state and federal
funding opportunities to support the development of this water taxi service and ensure its
sustainability and success.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the
Administration to take all necessary steps, including engaging a consultant, if needed, to apply
for any and all available state and federal grants to support the creation of a water taxi service
between Miami Beach and Miami, and to coordinate with the appropriate state and federal
agencies to identify potential funding sources to assist with the development of this service; and
further, direct the Administration to provide monthly updates via Letter to Commission (LTC) to
the City Commission on the progress of these efforts, including the status of grant applications,
the identification of potential funding sources, and any steps taken to secure the necessary
financial resources for this initiative.
