STATUS REPORT NO.5 - PARKS AND RECREATION GENERAL OBLIGATION
BOND PARKS MASTER PLAN
Outlined below is an update of recent activities which have occurred in the preparation of the master plan
for the city's park system.
o The remaining four community meetings for the major parks, i.e. Flamingo Park, North Shore Park,
North Shore Open Space Park, South Pointe Park and the Youth Center concluded on January 18,
1996.
o On January 22, 1996 the consultants made a presentation of the preliminary master plan proposal
to the Mayor.
o At the January 24, 1996 commission meeting the Youth Center Advisory Board presented their
master plan proposal for an expanded ice rink, the addition of a playfield and re-configuration of
the Par 3 Golf Course. The consultants were directed by the city commission to study and respond
on the implications of the proposal including cost, feasibility and the impact on the golf course.
o Representatives of the Boys and Girls Club have reviewed the proposal for Flamingo Park.
o The consultants and recreation staff have met with the city's ADA Coordinator, as well as the
Mayor's Barrier Free Environment Committee to discuss the proposed improvements and to obtain
input with respect to accessibility issues.
o Recreation staff and the consultants visited the Recreation Center in Coral Springs to examine the
pool complex which includes a stainless steel pool structure and also to look at the clay court
facilities which contain the new hydro-court irrigation system.
o A series of workshop sessions are in progress with the administration, recreation staff and the
consultants to review the master plan proposals for the various park sites, signage for the park
system, phasing and scheduling of the improvements and design guidelines.
o The Recreation and Parks Facilities Board continues to serve as the primary steering committee for
this master planning process. The master plan proposal will be presented to the board for review
when it is complete.

o Administrative staff continues to provide updates of the progress of the master plan at the regularly
scheduled meetings of various boards and committees and civic organizations, including the
Recreation and Parks Facilities Board, Youth Center Advisory Board, Golf Advisory Board, South
Point Advisory Council and North Beach Development Corporation.
o A city commission workshop to review the master plan has been scheduled for March 14, 1996.
You will continue to receive bi-weekly reports of the progress of this master planning process for our city's
park system.
