Brief bio/resume for Jo Asmundsson
Bom and educated in England where I obtained a degree in nursing. I was
corporate secretary of a group of financial companies and one insurance agency.
I have lived full time in Miami Beach since 1974 and have been involved with
many community projects,. Some of which I list below:
. I am currently Treasurer of Miami Beach Community Development
Corporation and have been a member of both Executive and Financial
Committees for approximately 10 years. I also sit on their Committee for
the specialized housing for persons with HIV/AIDS.
. As a member of the Board of Friends of WLRN Public Radio and
Television for 4 years, I sit on their Nominating Committee and
Development Committee. I also assist in their on air fund raising
. I have been active with the Radio Reading Service of WLRN since 1990
and was Chair of their Advisory Board for a period of 3 years.
. As a member of the board of Friends of Miami-Dade Pubic Library, I have
recently undertaken the responsibility of taking an active role with their
annual book sale.
. In 2001 I ran for Miami Beach Commission. I lost this race coming in third
in a field of 7 persons.
. I was a member of the Convention Center/Jackie Gleason Theater and
was their Chair person for 6 motnhs.
. Prior to that appointment I was a member of the Miami Beach Health
Advisory Committee for 4 years.
. I was Treasurer for the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of
Commerce, and remain a member of that organization.
. I attended a course of training with the Miami Beach Citizens Police
Academy and was their treasurer for 2 years.
. I was in the first class of the Citizens Neighborhood Leadership Group.

. I was a member of the ad hoc Concurrency Committee.
. As a member of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, I was co-chair
of the Govemmental Affairs Committee.
. For a short period of time I was a member of the Council of Advisory
Committees to the Miami Dade School Board.
Proudly I was presented an award from the City of Miami Beach as a Woman
Worth Knowing in March of 2006.
I took time off from some of my civic activities to move house and then renovate
my present home, did some traveling and following that I had a bad fall which
curtailed a lot of activities for a while.
I have been away too long and now I want to get back to community work with
and for my City.
