Gonzalez, City Manager DATE: November 21, 2007 SUBJECT: Miami Dade County Releases Request For Proposals (RFP) For The Building Better Communities Historic Preservation Fund Program Miami-Dade County has released the guidelines and Request for Proposals for the Historic Preservation Fund (the Fund), which is part of the Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond Program (BBC GOB). The purpose of the Fund is to establish a facilities preservation fund, that will provide matching funds through grants to municipalities, Florida Non-profit 501(c)(3), Florida for profit corporations or recognized business entities and property owners of residences or commercial historic properties for the rehabilitation of historic structures and sites and to safeguard those historic properties considered endangered. The program is geared to make an impact in the revitalization of historic buildings. The Fund is a component of the multi-year BBC GOB during which $10 million will be awarded to eligible recipients. The maximum award ceilings, based on market value as determined by the County's Property Appraiser are: $100,000 for properties valued under $400,000; $150,000 for properties valued between $400,000 and $700,000; and $250,000 for properties valued over $700,000. The deadline for applications is January 15, 2008. The City intends to notify residents, businesses and not-for-profits through the City's Internet, MBTV 77, Citypage in the Miami Herald Neighbors section and through other outreach and communication efforts.
