SUBJECT: ED ANIMAL TOYS TO THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT
This Letter to the Commission is to advise the Mayor and Commission of a donation of used stuffed
animal toys to the Police Department,
On November 1, 2000, the President of PD Wire & Cable Corporation, Ms. Jean A. Mauldin,
wrote Police Chief Barreto with the following message.
"We understand that when officers respond to domestic violence calls they very often find
that small children are involved. Several police departments throughout the country have
programs to equip each patrol car with teddy bears to give to such children, in an effort to
calm them and help them gain confidence in the police officers. As part of our company's
community outreach program, our employees would like to donate teddy bears and other
stuffed toys to the Miami Beach Police."
Chief Barreto accepted their kind offer. On Friday, November 17th, 2000, Captain Conwell, Lt.
Bray and Officer Weiss accepted their donation of 241 stuffed toys. The ceremony took place at
the local office of the corporation at 806 Douglas Road, Suite 800, Coral Gables.
The stuffed animal toys will be used by police officers to be given to children who are involved
in domestic violence cases.
The stuffed animal toys are used and valued at approximately $1.00 each for a total estimated
value of $241.00.
All of the employees of the PD Wire and Cable Corporation are to be thanked for their kind and
generous donation.
