RESOLUTION NO. 2001-24468
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING "THE
BEACH READS" PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the mission of "The Beach Reads" Program is to create awareness through
programs and activities that encourage Miami Beach residents to read books; and
WHEREAS, on January 22, 2001, the idea of "The Beach Reads" Program was presented
and approved by the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce Education Committee; and
WHEREAS, the Education Committee has urged the cooperation of the City of Miami
Beach, the Miami Beach Police Department, the Miami-Dade County Library System, the Miami
Beach Education Foundation, and the Miami Beach Quality of Education Committee to support "The
Beach Reads" Program; and
WHEREAS, this effort is being coordinated with other neighboring communities,
educational institutions, and organizations that share similar common goals; and
WHEREAS, the Police Athletic League, schools, libraries, and other community
organizations should commit to the support of this Program; and
WHEREAS, the business community and supporting organizations can assist "The Beach
Reads" Program by encouraging book fairs, sponsoring special events which encourage reading,
purchasing and delivering books to schools and libraries, and displaying signs to promote the effort.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the City of Miami Beach
hereby supports the "The Beach Reads" Program.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 6th day of June ,2001.
