96-22092 RESO RESOLUTION NO. 96-22092 A RESOLUTION OF THE KAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RETROACTIVELY AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF AN APPLICATION FOR A GRANT, AND, IF FUNDED, AUTHORIZING THE BUDGETING AND EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS, UNDER THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, "LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT" PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the city is eligible to apply for grant funds from the united states Department of Justice under the "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" (Program); and WHEREAS, the City desires to participate in this Program in order to help fund needed new positions, equipment and programs and may not be able to secure all of the monies necessary through the General Fund; and WHEREAS, the united states Department of Justice has funds available for this Program; and WHEREAS, the total estimated funds for this two (2) year Program are $425,431.00, of which $386,756.00 will be funded by the united states Department of Justice, and the remaining $38,675.00 will be funded by the City from the Police Confiscations Account. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE KAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA as follows: Section 1. The City of Miami Beach Police Department, through the Office of the City Manager, is authorized and directed, retroactively, to make application to the united States Department of Justice for grant funding under the "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program and, if funded, to budget and expend funds under the .grant. Section 2. The City certifies that it will accept the terms and conditions set forth in the Project Agreement for any assistance awarded under the proposal for grant funds, and that it is in complete accord with the proposal and any plans and specifications thereto, unless prior approval for any change has been received. 1996. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION Approval of the resolution. BACKGROUND The Police Department is eligible to receive funds under the US Department of Justice "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program. The submission deadline for the grant was August 8, 199~ and as the City commission did not meet in August, it was necessary to submit the application and request the appropriate authorization retroactively. The City will receive $386,756.00 in grant funding. The city's match is $38,675.00 (10%), for a total grant of $425,431.00. The funds will be available on October 1, 1996 and can be spent over the next two years. The grant funds will be used to fund to two new non-sworn positions, much needed equipment, and supplemental overtime for new crime prevention programs throughout the city.
