SUBJECT: LINCOLN ROAD NING SESSION
The purpose of this L.T.C. is to summarize the recently held visioning session for Lincoln Road and share with
you the preliminary report from the facilitator.
Over the past year, the City Administration has become increasingly concerned about a myriad of complex
socio/economic issues associated with Lincoln Road. In an effort to comprehensively address these subjects
and to seek solutions built on consensus, the Administration agreed to assist in the preparations for a
professionally facilitated full day "Visioning Session". Working with the Lincoln Road Marketing, Inc., the
Administration encouraged the participation of a targeted audience of property owners, business owners,
residents, Arts organizations, restaurantcurs and relevant City staff.
The Visioning Session was held on May 4, 200 l at the Community Church on Lincoln Road. The goal of the
event was to "create a common vision for the future of Lincoln Road". Over 100 people participated in the
day long event. Attached is the draft meeting summary provided by the facilitator. Both short and long term
issues and goals were enumerated.
It is the Administration's intent to assist Lincoln Road Marketing, Inc.CLRMI'') in facilitating the building
of a shared vision for Lincoln Road and toward that end, many common themes emerged as the day progressed.
Highlights include:
· The need to Market/Brand Lincoln Road
Linking the mall to other areas - Convention Center, Collins Avenue, Ocean Drive, etc,
· The desire to keep a strong cultural component on the Road
High maintenance standards
· The need to have a unified body that coordinates/manages and markets the Road
A need to establish some reasonable standards or rules.
An ambitious but achievable action plan that includes a 1 (one) year and 5 (five) year vision for Lincoln Road
is now being developed. LRMI and the facilitator have spoken and agreed that LRMI should conduct a series
of subcommittee meetings on specific issues identified during the session (Many of these issues deserved
lengthy discussion and would have overshadowed the rest of the program). Specific recommendations built
in these subcommittee meetings can then be brought to a larger meeting for adoption and recommendation
to the City.
The Administration looks forward to continuing to work with the varied interests of Lincoln Road to build
consensus and ensure its continued development and success as one of our greatest assets.
