RESOLUTION NO. 2001-24488
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF
GRANT FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $426,147.00, FROM THE UNITED
STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, "LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT
BLOCK GRANT" PROGRAM, AND AUTHORIZING THE BUDGETING AND
EXPENDITURE OF THESE GRANT FUNDS.
WHEREAS, the City, through the Police Department has been awarded grant funds
under the United States Department of Justice "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program;
and
WHEREAS, this is the sixth year the Police Department has been awarded grant funds
under the United States Department of Justice "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program;
and
WHEREAS, the total grant funds total $426,147.00, of which $383,532.00 will be
funded by the United States Department of Justice and the remaining $42,615.00 will be funded
by the City.
WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to fund special overtime projects such as gang
related enforcement, underage alcohol enforcement, selective traffic enforcement programs at
locations that have had a high incidence oftraffic accidents and injuries, unexpected major
special events, and various crime prevention initiatives.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, herein the acceptance of
grant funds, in the amount of $426, 147.00, from the United States Department of Justice, "Local
Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program, and authorizing the budgeting and expenditure of
these grant funds.

ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the Resolution.
ANALYSIS
The City of Miami Beach, through the Police Department, has been awarded grant funds under the
United States Department of Justice "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" program. This is the
sixth year the Police Department will receive funds under this program.
The total estimated funds for this project are $426,147, of which $383,532 will be funded by the
United States Department of Justice and the remaining $42,615 will be funded by the City.
The grant funds will be used to fund special overtime projects such as gang related enforcement,
underage alcohol enforcement, selective traffic enforcement programs at locations that have had a
high incidence of traffic accidents and injuries, unexpected major special events, and various crime
prevention initiatives.
It is recommended that the Mayor and City Commission adopt this Resolution and accept the award
of the Law Enforcement Block Grant Funds and authorize the budgeting and expenditure of the
funds.
