2009-27014 ResoRESOLUTION NO. 2009-27014 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A DONATION OF A BELGIAN MALINOIS DOG FROM MR. BENNY KLEPACH, TO BE UTILIZED BY THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT PATROL DIVISION CANINE SQUAD, FOR THE DUAL PURPOSE OF EXPLOSIVE DEVICE DETECTION AND THE DETECTION, TRACKING AND APPREHENSION OF SUBJECTS INVOLVED IN CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Police Department has identified a need to acquire a dual purpose dog for explosive device detection as well as the detection and apprehension of subjects involved in criminal activity in the City of Miami Beach; and WHEREAS, the canine handler and dog will work as a team to search for suspected explosive devices and subjects wanted for crimes; and WHEREAS, this dog has been purchased from the USA Canine Academy an approved Miami Beach Police Department canine vendor by Mr. Benny Klepach for a sum of $7900 and has graciously agreed to donate the dog to the Miami Beach Police Department; and train the dog to be obedient with the ability to detect explosive materials; and WHEREAS, in addition to the obedience and basic police canine training received from the USA Canine Academy, this dog and dedicated handler partner will receive additional advanced training and be assigned to the Patrol Division Canine Squad deployed throughout the City of Miami Beach; and WHEREAS, Mr. Benny Klepach, a City of Miami Beach resident, has agreed to donate a dog for the dual purpose of explosive device detection with the capability to track and apprehend subjects involved in criminal activity. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, accept a donation of a Belgian Malinois dog from Mr. Benny Klepach, to be utilized by the Miami Beach Police Department Patrol Canine Squad for the dual purpose of explosive device detection and the detection, tracking and apprehension of subjects involved in criminal activity.
