SuBIECL Grand Opening of South Pointe Park
As you are aware, this coming Sunday, March 22. 2009. is the much-anticipated grand
opening of South Pointe Park - "where the beach begins." An afternoon of events and
festivities begins at 3:00 pm, with the grand opening ceremony scheduled for 3:30 pm at the
fountain near the Washington Avenue entrance. We hope you and your family will be able to
come to the park on Sunday, and especially to the grand opening ceremony.
We have attached for your reference a copy of the "passport" created for this event. This
passport includes a schedule of events for the afternoon, including the grand opening
ceremony (when the fountain is officially turned on), live entertainment on the west greens,
yoga, kite making and flying for kids and a string quartet on the pavilion deck. Additionally,
we have placed stations throughout the park that will be staffed with City Departments. In
addition to encouraging all visitors to walk throughout the park to get their passport
"stamped" and be eligible for a souvenir, these stations will provide information on recycling,
parking, parks/recreational programs, the environmental significance of the dunes, the turtle
program, fitness programs, the history of the park, and the CIP program. Additionally, the
Parks Department has developed aone-mile fitness trail.
We are excited at the ability to share with the community this unique and exciting park. We
hope you will be able to join us on Sunday. Attached, please find a souvenir T-Shirt.
