Gonzalez, City Manager i DATE March 26'", 2009 lam, SUt3J[CT: Recreation News and Upcoming Events Youth Golf Clinic -The Parks & Recreation Department, Professional Course Management Corporation (PCM) and United States Golf Association is hosting the Normandy Shores Golf Club Youth Clinic. Twenty North Shore Park and Youth Center participants are having the opportunity to learn the game of golf. Each child will have access to play at the Normandy Shores Golf Club courtesy of the Parks & Recreation Department. Biggest Loser's -Inspired by the "Biggest Loser" T\/ show, Parks and Recreation employees were encouraged to live a healthier lifestyle and to participate in a weight loss competition. Of the 38 participants who vowed to lose weight, Dagoberto Rodriguez was our grand prize winner receiving a 3 night cruise sponsored by the PAL. Angela Brown our second place winner receiving a 2 night stay from the Eden Roc Resort, and our third place winner Isabel Ferrer received lunch for 2 at the Miami Beach Golf Club. Congrats to all! St. Patrick's Dance -The Scott Rakow Youth Center hosted a St. Patrick's Day Dance for youth in grades 4'"-12'" on March 11'". Participants enjoyed an afternoon of fun & dancing. COMING UP... Spring Duathlon -Parks & Recreation is once again challenging runners & swimmers of all ages to compete in the 5'~ Spring Duathlon. The event will be held at Flamingo Park on Saturday, March 28'".The course is comprised of a one-mile track run, followed by a 500 yard pool swim, followed by another one-mile track run to the finish. Spring Eggstravaganza -Parks and Recreation invites you to kick off the spring season with a day filled with food, fun, music, rides, and of course...eggs. The event will be held on Saturday, April 11"', at the North Shore Park and Youth Center s lawn from 10:OOam -12:30 pm. Children 10 years & younger will participate in the egg hunt at 11:OOam. In addition, the City's Arbor Day Celebration will be incorporated at this year's event. There will be a tree planting ceremony along with a reading of the Arbor Day proclamation. informational pamphlets, coloring books, etc. Spring Dance -The Scott Rakow Youth Center will be hosting a Spring Dance for children in grades 4"' - 8`". Participants will enjoy a night of fun & dancing. The dance will be on April 17r" from 7 to 9 pm. Entrance fee is $3, beverages, snacks and pizza will be sold during the event.
