PROFESSIONAL TEAM TENNIS COMES TO MIAMI BEACH
A hot summer of professional tennis is on tap for
South Florida as a new team tennis franchise will be based on
Miami Beach. The team known as the Miami Beach Breakers, joins
the inaugural 8 city World Team Tennis League of which Billie Jean
King serves as Commissioner. All seven home dates of the 14 match
season will be played at the recently constructed 5,000 seat Abel
Holtz Stadium in Flamingo Park's Capital Bank Tennis Center.
MIAMI REACH
The Breakers feature one of professional tennis'
finest rising stars on their roster, Gabriella Sabatini. Ms. Sabatini, 17,
was the number one ranked junior player in the world for 1984 and
is the youngest person to ever win a round at the U.S. Open. She is
the reigning champion of the Orange Bowl Junior Tennis Tourna-
ment and has victories over such top pros as Carling Bassett and
Pam Shriver. The team also features South Florida product Steve
Meister, considered one of the better mens doubles players. Other
top players participating in the league include: Butch Waltz (San
Diego); Rosie Casals (Chicago); Vince Van Patten (LA); and Andrea
Leland (Boston).
The Abel Holtz Stadium and Capital Bank Tennis
Center in Flamingo Park was completed in late 1984. $800,000 of
this more than one million dollar project was paid for and donated
to the City by Capital Bank. The facility includes: 3 championship
clay tennis courts, 5,000 aluminum and steel bleacher seats; two
electronic scoreboards; and a TV network lighting system. The tennis
center is the home for the Annual Orange Bowl Junior Tennis Tour-
namentwhich has been a showcase for young professional players
such as John Mc Enroe, Chris Evert, Jimmy Connors and Bjorn Borg.

HIGH FASHION RETURNS TO LINCOLN ROAD ~:~~~ ~
Stylish designer clothes made
a formal debut once again on Lincoln Road Mall
with a festive Mother's Day Fashion Show, sponsored by the South Florida Art
Center. The occasion also marked the grand opening of the chic new
boutique, Jilli, Billi and the Pea at 811 Lincoln Road, which features the art-to-
wearclothes of well-known designer Jillian Bos.
Once known as "the Fiffh Avenue of the South", Lincoln
Road in its heyday was home to the most fashionable clothing styles. Now,
artistic fashion is emerging once again on the mall with this new stylish
boutique, the high fashion creations presented by the Weaver's Guild (in
cooperation with local designers) and the working galleries and studios of
the South Florida Art Center. All this activity is taking place in the 800, 900 and
1000 blocks of Lincoln Road.
The fashion show, itself, featured the latest in one of a kind
designer clothes ranging from hand-painted silks and leathers to hand-dyed
and woven wear, complete with a full array of decorative accessories. The
work presented by Ms. Bos included a colortul collection of contemporary
clothing designed for tropical elegance. It featured the finest Italian and
Japanese silks, French cottons, Italian and Belgian linens, all selected for
comfort, fluidity of movement and their classic look.
Others taking part in the show were Leslie Fortney, Annette
Nelesen and Florette Semigram of the Weaver's Guild; Claire Kern and Martha
Harrison, local designers working with the Guild; Betty Kjelsen,a hat designer,
and Marlene Byer and Matt Willing, designers of jewelry and accessories.

Between a highly successful developers confer-
ence and major ground-breaking event, fireworks have
recently lit the sky over South Pointe creating an increased
awareness of this exciting development scenario. Positive
reviews of the area have been coming in from interested
developers and investors, and City officials are predicting
a continued upswing in development interest,
Both out-of-town and local developers des-

the weekend's activities, Jerome Rappaport, Sr, Board
Chairman of Boston's Charles River Properties - one of
New Englands major residential and commercial
developers -stated; "Extraordinary opportunities for in-
vestmenthave been unwrapped at this conference,
Miami Beach is one of the best kept secrets in the Country.
A few days following this conference, the Cheezem
Development Corporation held a spectacular event to
mark the groundbreaking of the first of four 200 unit con-
dominiumtowerstheyare planningto build on a 19-acre
tract in South Pointe.
Not just your ordinary shovel and dirt ceremony,
this groundbreaking extravaganza featured laser lights,
fireworks, and a bonafide U,F.O, (the sister ship to the one
featured during the ceremonies of the 1984 Olympics in
Los Angeles), It was an invitation only, catered affair, that
was attended by VIPs from throughout South Florida, The
fireworks display in conjunction with laser lights would
have been the envy of most any July 4th celebration,
