SUBJECT: Status of Wireless Miami Beach WiFi project
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to communicate the current status of the
Wireless Miami Beach WiFi project.
Since October 2008, Trish Walker and the technical team including our independent
engineer, Jim Geier, have met numerous times to finalize the final acceptance test plan
with IBM. Testing began Monday April 6 and is estimated to take a minimum of 4 weeks
with a final report expected in May.
If IBM has achieved the required contractual specifications and network performance,
the City will enter a reliability period of 90 days during which the system will be available
for use. The system must successfully perform during the reliability period before the
City will accept the system. If accepted by the City, the contract with IBM provides for the
operation and maintenance of the network for a six year period from the date of
acceptance.
