LTC # ova-zoo9 LETTER TO COMMISSION To: Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and Members of the City Commission FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez. City Manager DATE: April 13, 2009 Il 1 5uB1ECr: Ileana Ros-Lehtinen to Visit Miami Beach Teen Club You are cordially invited to attend the Welcome and Thank You reception for Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen at the Miami Beach Teen Club. The reception wilt take place on Monday, April 20. 2009 at 3:30 p.m. at the 21" Street Recreation Center, located at 2100 Washington Avenue. The Teen Club Grand Opening held on February 27, 2009 marked the implementation of a new home for Miami Beach Teens on South Beach. This program, partially funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice, allocated its initial grant two years ago when the City received 550,000 to assist with start-up activities. Due to the success of the program, the second grant allocation of $648.403 was secured in FY 2008 through the continued support and efforts of Miami Beach's Congressional Representative, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. We are also pleased to report an additional allocation of $200,000 for FY 2009. The Teen Club, which was established in 2004 with only nine teens at the North Shore Park Youth Center, now boasts more than 120 members. The recently approved funding will be utilized to maintain the current program at North Shore Park while expanding the program, using the same format: to the south end of the city including transportation for teens from Nautilus Middle School.
