SUBJECT- TRANSMITTAL OF THE AMERESCO PRELIMINARY ENERGY
ASSESSMENT REPORT
Together with this LTC, please find a copy of the Ameresco Preliminary Energy Assessment
completed for the City of Miami Beach.
As required in the contract with the City of Miami Beach, Ameresco has reviewed all of the
City's facilities in order to determine measures chat would be feasible for energy
conservation. Each of the potential projects is identified as an energy conservation measure
(ECM). The members of the City Commission will note that there is a summary page of all of
the ECM's contained on page 8 of the report. This summary page also reflects the
approximate costs of the energy conservation measure, the potential savings, as well as the
return on investment associated with the specific project. Two projects, ECM numbers 13
and 14, are still being analyzed by Ameresco and additional information will be made
available to the members of the City Commission at the Finance & Citywide Projects
Committee meeting in which the report is discussed.
The report is organized by individual ECM projects. Each ECM has a seciion devoted to that
particular measure and in that section is identified the intended conservation measure, as
well as some of the preliminary design and/or specifications associated with that measure.
ECM #15 in the report is the section in which Ameresco, as required in their contract, has
identified those issues which they have reviewed; however, do not deem to be feasible at
this point in time.
Before Ameresco can proceed to finish their report and provide a final product to the City,
the preliminary assessment document must be reviewed and feedback provided to
Ameresco. The ECM's that are chosen for continued analysis in the Finance & Citywide
Projects Committee and subsequent City Commission vote will form the basis of the final
report. Many of the suggested ECM's are relatively straight forward and will not require a
substantial amount of discussion by the Finance & Citywide Projects Committee or City
Commission. Items such as street light upgrades and replacement of current transformers
are clearly energy saving with a good payback and little or no controversy. A few of the
projects that have lesser amounts of savings or higher paybacks will need to be discussed
more fully by the members of the Finance & Citywide Projects Committee and ultimately the
City Commission.
