Gonzalez; t;ity ~anager DATE: June 16, 2009 suslLCl: Recreation News and Upcoming Events Summer Camps -The City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department's Summer Camp Program began on June 8, 2009. Over 1;090 children have been registered in all day camp programs, and close to 900 in a series of specialty camps. Despite the fact that camp enrollment has almost reached capacity, the Scott Rakow Youth Center (2700 Sheridan Avenue), Flamingo Park (999 11 Street) and North Shore Park & Youth Center {501 72n0 Street) are still accepting registration for various age groups. Enrollment is also still open for numerous camps, such as Cheerleading/Fitness, Fishing, Performing Arts, Swimming, Ice Skating, Sports and Extreme Adventures, just to name a few. In addition, this year the Department is offering new specialty camps in Video Production; Gaming and Water Polo. School's Out Fiesta - On Thursday, June 4'", nearly 1,000 Miami Beach residents enjoyed a fun family evening at the Flamingo Park "School's Out Fiesta." Children and their parents celebrated the end of the school year and the beginning of summer vacation with a huge carnival-style event. The evening included free music, rides, crafts and a whole lot of fun! Senior's Beach Party - On Saturday; June 6`", approximately 250 attendees had a great time with food, drinks, great music and a lot of dancing at the Seniors Beach Party at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Events like this are hosted throughout the year to bring seniors from various assisted living facilities and the community together for a fun night of entertainment. Loco Luau -Parks and Recreation will be hosting Loco Luau at North Shore Park Youth Center on Friday, June 26thfrom 6pm - 9pm. We'll bring the fun of the Hawaiian Islands to residents.
