Gonzalez 1. ~ City Manager r 0 PARKS AND RECR TION PROGRAMS AND FACILITIES BLUE RIBBON CITIZENS' COMMITTEE Subject: On June 6, 2001, the City Commission referred the creation of a Parks and Recreation Blue Ribbon Citizens' Committee to the Neighborhoods Committee for discussion and action. The Neighborhoods Committee met on July 17, 2001 and approved the creation of the Parks and Recreation Programs and Facilities Blue Ribbon Citizens' Committee. The Neighborhoods Committee recommended approval in a report to the City Commission on July 25, 2001. I am recommending the appointment of the following representatives to serve on the Blue Ribbon Committee: . The Chairperson or a designee of the Parks and Recreation Facilities Board . The Chairperson or a designee of the Scott Rakow Youth Center Board . The Chairperson or a designee of the Committee for Quality Education . The Chairperson or a designee of the Golf Advisory Committee . The Chairperson or a designee of the Barrier Free Committee . Mark Baranek - Mr. Baranek is a youth advocate now serving as the Youth Director at Temple Beth Sholom and has been involved in youth advocacy in this community for more than 10 years. . Regina Berman - A resident of North Beach, Ms. Berman is a former member of the Neighborhoods First Oversight Committee and a member of the Commission on the Status of Women. She is active in a variety of organizations including the League of Women Voters. . Jay Chipy - Mrs. Chipy is a teacher at Horace Mann Middle School and has been a resident of the City of Miami Beach for 23 years. Her family has been using the City's Parks and Recreation Programs for approximately 20 years. . Brenda Jordan - Ms. Jordan is a participant of the Housing Authority's Self-Sufficiency Program. She is also the Executive Director of World African Traditional Arts a visual and performing arts organization. Her children have been using the City's parks since she moved to the Miami Beach 4 years ago. . Debra Leibowitz - Public relations specialist and local newspaper reporter, Ms. Leibowitz is < active in a variety of organizations, most notably the Friends of North Beach, a fundraising arm of North Beach Elementary. Under her leadership, Friends of North Beach has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support public education. . Julio Magrisso - Mr. Magrisso is a long time resident of Miami Beach and has served as Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Facilities Board. His two children have used the City's parks system for numerous years. . Stacey Shane-Nusbaum - Swim instructor at the Scott Rakow Youth Center, Ms. Shane- Nusbaum is the parent of two children and is an active volunteer for the Performing Arts Academy of South Florida and the Ronald Shane Watersports Center. . Aileen Phelan - Mrs. Phelan is a social worker at the Hope Center for the developmentally disabled. She was born in the City and her family has been participating in the City's Parks and Recreation Programs for 10 years. . Dr. Jacqueline Salazar - Dr. Salazar is a resident of the City, has been a pediatrician for 16 years and is a user of the City's Parks and Recreation facilities. . Amy Turkel- President of a local marketing firm, Ms. Turkel has served on a variety of City boards including the Community Relations Board and Miami Beach Housing Authority. This group is representative of each geographic area of the City and our diverse community, as well as users and non-users of the Parks and Recreation system.
