Subject: UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN 2001 The purpose of this LTC. is to update you on the 2001 City of Miami Beach United Way Campaign which has now concluded. The City of Miami Beach United Way Campaign for year 2001 has been concluded. This year's campaign began in May 2001 with a meeting between the Mayor, myself and Mr. Pat Morris of the United Way to discuss the City's participation. At this meeting, it was agreed that the City would participate in a "Pacesetter's" campaign. A "Pacesetter's" campaign required the City to pursue a 20% overall increase over our year 2000 contributions, complete the campaign, and report the results by August 1, 2001. Our "Pacesetter's" goal was $76,000.00 in contributions. Police Chief Richard Barreto, for the third year in a row, was selected as the Campaign Chair with Assistant City Manager Ms. Christina Cuervo selected as the Co-Chair. Assistant Chief of Police Don De Lucca was selected as the Leadership Chair. Steering Committee members were Major Chuck Press, Mr. Jack Richardson, Ms. Robin Garver, Mr. Richard McKinnon, Mr. John Wheeler and Officer Bernie Ruder. The Campaign took place between the dates of July 9 to July 20. The generosity of our employees has resulted in a 12% increase over last year's donations, from $62,791.44 to $70,391.50, This comes on the heals ofa 100% increase in the last two years. This is something we can all be very proud of. These donations will be used to provide services to the many people in our community who are less fortunate than we are. A special thanks goes to our Police Chief, Richard Barreto, who for the third year in a row, has been the driving force behind our City's success. In this year's Campaign, Leadership participation and contributions dramatically increased. In the year 2000 Campaign, 22 employees participated for total donations of $22,000. In this year's Campaign, 50 employees participated for total contributions of $36,762. This represents a 127% increase in Leadership participation and a 67% increase in contributions. . Special mention and thanks goes to the employees and directors of the Office of Children's Affairs, Internal Audit. Fleet Management, General Services - Central Services and Information Technology. Each of these Departments achieved 100% participation! The following Departments deserve recognition for significant increases in their contributions; the Finance Department. up by 71 %; the Public Information Office, up by 143%; the Film and Print Office, up by 132%; the Fire Department. up by 45%; the General Services Department - Purchasing up by 45%; the Parking Department. up by 59%; the Police Department, up by 37%; and the Public Works Department, up by 55%. There will be a "Thank you" breakfast and prize raffle on August 24, 2001 at 8:30AM, in the City Hall first floor conference room. We all have every reason to be proud of our employees who have unselfishly given of themselves to others less fortunate. JMG\RRB\DD\PS\MMS F:IPOLlITECHSERVlPOLlCIESICOM_MEMOIunited way 2001.ltc.doc
