""y City Manager ' 0A't WEEKLY UPDATE SUBJECT: The purpose of this LTC is to provide the Mayor and Commission with an update describing some of the areas the Administration focused on during the week of September 10, 2001. Employee Brown Bag Lunch with the City Manager - In an effort to better communicate with City employees, the City Manager along with other representatives from the Administration continued to hold dialogues over lunch with City employees in an effort to get to know each other better and understand mutual concerns. On Monday, September 10, we met with about 30 representatives from the City's Customer Service Task Force. Police Department Executive Development Process - The Police Department Command Staff participated in various leadership development and feedback sessions on September 11 - 14. This executive development process will help identify the next Chief of Police and appropriate subsequent appointments to the Command Staff due to potential promotions and retirements in the Police Department. Beach Concessions - Representatives from the Administration are finalizing negotiations with representatives from Boucher Brothers and will present an agreement to the City Commission at the September 20 Commission meeting, Collins Avenue - Central Florida Equipment Rental (CFER) began the installation of the water line service laterals to the hotels and businesses along the corridor. Our contract with CFER directs that the connection of these water line service laterals be coordinated with each hotel or business, Representatives from the Administration continue to meet weekly with the Collins Avenue Task Force (comprised of representatives from the hotels, businesses and community on Collins Avenue) to update them on the status of the construction. , . General Obligation Oversight Committee - A meeting was held on September 10. A project status report was provided regarding the North Shore Park & Youth Center project going out to bid and the Group C Parks project being prepared to go out to bid, In addition, an update was provided by Hazen and Sawyer regarding the proposed implementation schedule for the Right-of-Way Infrastructure Improvements Program. A Commission Memorandum summarizing the meeting will be provided to the Commission, land Use and Development Committee - A meeting was held on September 10, Items discussed included a discussion of Monument Island, which the Committee recommended the approval of the Monument Island Plan presented by the Department of Environmental Resource Management and to have signage for the Island installed, The Committee also discussed a Request for Qualifications for Collins Avenue Parking Lots but decided not to issue the RFQ until a traffic study is completed. A Commission Memorandum summarizing the meeting will be provided to the Commission. Sunset Harbour Task Force - A meeting was held on September 13. Items discussed included a review of a special events application for the Cystic Fibrosis 2001 Kayak Challenge and a discussion of the Island View Park Shade Structure, which the Task Force recommended that the City replace the construction of a shade structure with canopy shade trees throughout the Park, A Commission Memorandum summarizing the meeting will be provided to the Commission. Major Events Plan Community Meeting - Was held on September 13 with twelve (12) community leaders, including members of the City and County's Community Relations Boards. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and debrief the City's Major Events Planning process used during the Source and Labor Day weekends, to solicit additional input to ensure that our Major Events Plan is on target to meet the needs of the community, the arrest of the Source Magazine executive after the Source Awards, and other community relations related issues, including how we can continue to partner with the community to ensure that the City continues to meet the needs of our diverse community, Design Review Board - A meeting was held on September 14, Applicants requesting design review approval included: Hazelwoods Apartments, JIGS Investments, Temple Beth Sholom, La Gorce Country Club, The Lofts of North Beach, North Shore Park Youth Center, and the Byron-Carlyle Theater. In addition, the Related Group of Florida requested a preliminary evaluation of a proposal to construct a mixed-use development on a city-owned parcel between nnd and 73rd Streets between Collins and Harding Avenues.
