SUBJECT 1 S' Annual "Golf For Kids" Golf Tour ent to Benefit the Normandy Shores
Golf Club USGA youth Clinics
We are pleased to invite you to join us at the 1 s' Annual "Golf For Kids" Golf Tournament to
benefit the City's USGA (United States Golf Association)-supported youth golf clinics,
offered at the Normandy Shores Golf Club as a program of our Parks and Recreation
Department. The event will be held at the Normandy Shores Golf Club on Friday, October 2,
2009 with a 1:00 P.M. Shotgun start. Event activities will include a putting contest, a longest
drive contest and a "closest to the pin" competition. The tournament will conclude with an
awards reception when all golfers complete their round.
The event is being hosted to generate funds to continue the youth golf clinics that began in
the spring of 2009 shortly after the new Normandy Shores Golf Club was opened. The City
applied for a grant from the USGA to provide golf instruction for the youth in our community
who otherwise may not be able to afford access to these services. The funds generated by
the tournament are a requirement for a match, as stipulated by the USGA grant for the
continuation of the program. The mission of the Normandy Shores Golf Club Youth Clinic is:
"To impact the lives of young people by providing teaming facilities and educational
programs that promote characterdevelopmenf and life-enhancing values through the game
of golf
In the first eighteen (18) week program, youth from the North Shore Park Youth Center
participated in a two hour per week instructional program taught by our PGA (Professional
Golf Association) certified instructors from PCM (Professional Course Management). We
are proud to report that several youth completed the program, have been provided a youth
starter set of golf clubs free of charge and have been certified as youth golfers eligible to
play on the Normandy Shores Golf Course. We are currently planning our second program
that will begin later this fall.
Attached, please find a sponsorship registration brochure and a golfer registration form that
are being distributed as promotional materials for this event.
If you are interested in playing in the tournament as our guest please contact Kevin Smith,
Director of Parks and Recreation. If you know of golfers interested in playing in the
tournament, or supporting the event as a sponsor, please have them contact the Normandy
Shores Golf Club directly.
