SUBJECT: FY2009/10 Proposed Wholesale Water & Sewer Rates
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide the Mayor and City Commission with
an update regarding the outcome of the proposed County Water and Sewer rates that were
discussed and approved at the Second Budget Hearing of the Miami-Dade Board of County
Commissioners on September 17, 2009.
The proposed City of Miami Beach Utilities Ordinance amendment was approved on first
reading at the City Commission Budget Hearing of September 10, 2009. The City
Commission approved the City portion of the rate increase in the amount of $0.29, but
determined that approval of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) portion
of the proposed combined water and sewer rate increase would be equal to the rate
increase approved by the Board of County Commissioners at their September 17, 2009
Second Budget Hearing.
On September 22, 2009, WASD informed the Ciiy that the Board of Counly Commissioners
at their September 17, 2009 Second Budget Hearing, approved the proposed WASD
wholesale rates of 1.7142 per 1,000 gallons for water and $2.0436 per 1,000 gallons for
sewer. The proposed Utilities Ordinance amendment submitted fora Second Reading Public
Hearing at the scheduled City Commission Budget Hearing of September 24, 2009 reflects
the approved County rate increases for purchased water and sewer treatment.
