LTC 270-2009 Invitation to Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Beachview Parkm MIAMIBEACH r~':= ~'~~ 2Q04 OCR 13 ~N 9, 4~i OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER NO. LTC # 270-2009 LETT~~~~4~~~ht1'~i1~S`~10N TO: Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and Members of the City Commission FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez, City Manager DATE: October 9, 2009 SUBJECT: Invitation to the Ribbon Cutting for the New Beachview Park You are cordially invited to the grand opening of the newly renovated Beachview Park. The City of Miami Beach's Parks and Recreation Department has recently completed the installation of a new shade covered playground and outdoor exercise fitness circuit within the Mid Beach District. This ocean side park now provides our residents the opportunity to play, workout and enjoy nature in a unique beach setting. This once barren beach spoil is now a completely accessible beautiful park. The shaded playground is composed of a sleek, non-traditional open play system that focuses on stretching and upper body strength disguised as fun and designed specifically for 5-12 year olds. In addition, there is a traditional playground for 2-5 year olds, with swings, benches and a picnic table. To the south of the playground, the eco-friendly fitness circuit has all the amenities of an indoor gym except it is designed to be used outdoors, turning this great open space into a free workout area with structure designed to improve overall health through cardiovascular, muscle and strength, and balance coordination and flexibility exercises. Each component is installed with directions for use and technique tips to provide the ultimate workout results safe for all ages 5 years old and up. Additionally, the site now contains native landscaping with over 3,500 coastal dune groundcover plants installed, 165 trees and a new irrigation system. The new park was funded thorough the Capital Budget Funding FY 06/07. The trees were funded through the Reforestation Program. This new park is a great place to workout, play or just simply relax and enjoy the great outdoors. Please join us on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, beginning ac 3:OOpm, for a walk in the park with the ribbon cutting at 3:30 P.M. to celebrate the official opening of the New Beachview Park, at 53`d Street and Collins Avenue. We hope to see you there! JMG/HMF/KS/JO/RG Attachment c: Hilda M.
