suaJECr: South Shore Community Center Ribbon Cutting
The purpose of this LTC is to announce that a ribbon cutting and celebration has been
scheduled for Tuesday. October 27, 2009, 4:00 p.m. at the South Shore Community Center,
833 6'" Street (6'" Street side of the building in the directory and fountain area). Following
the ribbon cutting, guests will be invited onto the plaza for refreshments. Children from the
Little Havana Activities and Nutrition Center have been invited to sing following the
ceremony.
Current tenants of the facility include Jewish Community Services, who provide senior meals
and senior ride programs; Little Havana Activities and Nutrition Center Day Care Program:
Miami-Dade Community Action Agency; and UNIDAD of Miami Beach.
The newly renovated facility was originally designed by world renowned Miami Beach
architect Morris Lapidus. Improvements to the building include the installation of a
playground surface and playground equipment. interior improvements to the auditorium and
office spaces. ADA access ramps, interior lighting, windows and doors, exterior renovation
of the building, new building directory, planters and landscaping, fencing, painting, fire
alarms and upgrades to electrical and mechanical systems. The facility was upgraded by
the City of Miami Beach Public Works Department's Property Management Division.
Funding for the renovations was provided through Community Development Block Grant
Entitlement Funds, City of Miami Beach GO Bond Funds, Dade County GO Bond Funds and
ADA Citywide Funds.
