Gonzalez, City Manager DATE: October 22, 2009 SUBJECT: Recreation News and Upcoming Events Hispanic Hertage Festival -The North Shore Park and Youth Center hosted its 4`" Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival on Friday, October 16'". Approximately 1,400 residents celebrated the festivities and enjoyed a variety of activities, such as children's performances, rides and the annual awards ceremony. Fall Athletic Programs -The Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce another successful Athletic Program registration. Approximately 400 participants are currently enrolled in various athletic leagues, to include Intramural Soccer, Boys Traveling Soccer, Traveling Baseball and Intramural Flag Football. COMING UP... Movie in the Park -Normandy Isle Park and Pool will be hosting our "Movie in the Park" on Friday, October 23r° from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. You and your family and friends are invited to sit back, relax and enjoy a free film on our 15' x 20' inflatable big screen on the park lawn. The movie that will be showing is "Coraline" (rated PG). Food will be available for purchase and free popcorn will be given to those who attend (while supplies last). Fall Youth Duathlon - Parks ~ Recreation is once again challenging runners & swimmers. Children 17 and underwill be com~eting in the "Fall Youth Duathlon".The event will be held at Flamingo Park on Saturday, October 24 at 9:00 a.m. The course is comprised of a half-mile track run, a 300-yard pool swim and followed by another half-mile track run. Seniors' Halloween Party -The City of Miami Beach, in conjunction with the Opium Group, will be hosting a "Halloween Party" for seniors on Thursday, October 29, 2009 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mansion, 1235 Washington Avenue. Seniors will enjoy an evening of food, fun and a live Latin band. Halloween Safe Night of Fright -Children and adults of all ages are welcomed to join the fun as the Parks and Recreation Department presents its Annual Halloween - "Safe Night of Fright" being held on Saturday, October 31$` from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the North Shore Bandshell. The free event will allow ghouls and goblins to enjoy a safe night of trick-or-treating, entertainment, refreshments and much more. Come join us for what is sure to be a "Spooktacular" event!
