2009-27224 ResoRESOLUTION N0.2009-27224 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ELECTING COMMISSIONER DEEDE WEITHORN AS VICE-MAYOR FOR A TERM COMMENCING ON NOVEMBER 1, 2009, AND TERMINATING ON NOVEMBER 4, 2009 OR, IF A RUNOFF ELECTION IS HELD, TERMINATING ON NOVEMBER 18, 2009. WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission established a policy of rotating the position of Vice-Mayor every four months; and WHEREAS, the sequence was changed via Resolution 2009-27079 for the term of July 1 through October 31, 2009, to allow Commissioner Diaz, who filled Commissioner Steinberg's Group III seat, to be elected asVice-Mayor, continuing thereafterwith the rotation schedule beginning with Group VI to be elected as Vice-Mayor; and WHEREAS, typically the term for the next Vice-Mayor would be November 1, 2009 through February 28, 2010; however, because of the General Election scheduled for November 3, 2009, and City Charter Section 2.04, the term for the next Vice-Mayor will commence November 1, 2009 and terminate on November 4, 2009 or, if a Runoff Election is held, the term will terminate on November 18, 2009; and WHEREAS, a resolution will be placed on the November 4, 2009 Commission Agenda, or if a Runoff Election is held, on the November 18, 2009 Commission Agenda, allowing newly elected City Commission to elect, from its membership, Commissioner Deede Weithorn asVice-Mayor, for a term to expire February 28, 2010. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that Commissioner Deede Weithorn is hereby elected as Vice-Mayor of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, for a term commencing on November 1, 2009 and terminating on November 4, 2009 or, if a Runoff Election is held, the term will terminate on November 18, 2009.
