SU3JKT: Drexel Avenue Closure -Public hAeeting
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform you of an upcoming public meeting for the purpose of
soliciting public input on a proposal to close Drexel Avenue between 17'" Street and Lincoln Lane North. The
public meeting will be held on Tuesday; November 24, 2009, 5:30 p.m. at the Miami Beach City Hall
Commission Chambers.
The proposed Drexel Avenue closure aims to convert this section of the street as part of the park that is
planned in front of the New World Symphony campus currently under construction between Drexel Avenue
and Washington Avenue. Also proposed is the conversion of Drexel Avenue between Lincoln Lane and
Lincoln Road (north} to a one-way northbound.
The public meeting will be held to solicit input and suggestions from the public on the proposed closure of
Drexel Avenue between 17~ Street and Lincoln Lane. The public meeting is required per the Miami-Dade
County (county) Traffic Flow Modification/Street Closure Procedures Manual. The results of the public
meeting, along with recommendations from a traffic engineering study on the closure, will be presented to the
City Commission at the December 9, 2009 CiEy Commission meeting. Based on Commission approval a
resolution v~ilf be forwarded to the County to proceed with the implementation of a test to confirm the traffic
study assumptions. The results of the test will lie submitted to the County for their final approval.

The proposed Drexel Avenue closure aims to convert this section of the
street as part of a plaza designed as an element of the New World
Symphony campus currently under construction between Drexel Avenue
and Washington Avenue. This will help to create a pedestrian friendly
environment in the area and provide connectivity to and from Lincoln
Road and other nearby amenities. Also proposed is the conversion of
Drexel Avenue between Lincoln Lane and Lincoln Road (north] to a one-
way northbound.
