Su13JECT: Airport Flyer Ribbon Cutting Cerem~
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide you with the details of the Airport Flyer
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony launching the new airport-to-beach express bus service. The ceremony
will take place on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the main bus stop at the Miami
International Airport, which is on the Ground Level of Concourse E, directly across from Customs
(see Attachment 1, Ceremony Announcement). The event will include aribbon-cutting ceremony
with Mayor Matti H. Bower and Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez. Michael Aller, Chief of
Protocol, will be the Master of Ceremonies for the event. Miami-Dade Transit representatives will
provide a presentation of a new "Airport Flyer" bus with special branding. Information on the Airport
Flyer, including the route, connection to the South Beach Local, schedule, and tare will be posted at
the ceremony and distributed to attendees.
The Airport Flyer service is scheduled to begin on Sunday, December 13: 2009. Please see the
Airport Flyer Route Map attached for information on stops (Attachment 2). MDT will provide a seven
(7) day per week bus service. The Airport Flyer will operate from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. with service
approximately every thirty (30) minutes. The new route will use the regular MDT 40 foot buses with
interior space provided for luggage. The buses will be branded with a special logo for easy
identification, and to help promote ridership. The fare will be $2.35 each way, which is the fare for
all express buses.
As we previously informed you, the Airport Flyer makes various stops, and also connects to the
South Beach Local on Washington Avenue at Lincoln Road and on 17°i Street at Convention Center
Drive. ~~
