Fishman, Vice-Chairman FROM: Mark Weithorn, Transportation & Parking Committee Chair e bers• Jo Asmundsson DATE: December 21, 2009 Scott Diffenderfer At Feola SUBJECT: Florida Department of Transportation (FOOT) -Maintenance of Del Fruit McArthur & Julia Tuttle Walls Maria Mayer 1P Morgan Dear Mayor and Honorable City Commission: Josephine Pampanas Marvin Silverman The Transportation & Parking Committee met on December 7, 2009, and Scott Timm held a discussion regarding the wall conditions of the McArthur and Julia Tuttle Seth Wasserman Causeways; a representative from the Florida Department of Transportation (FOOT) was present. The Committee was informed that FOOT supervises two (2} contracts for the amounts of $120k and $130k, which can be used for the removal of graffiti. The Committee is concerned with the manner in which this work is being done, as the paint colors used for the patchwork do not match, making these most scenic roads for tourists, unsightly. Question was raised as to the feasibility for the City of Miami Beach to take over the funds from FOOT and City to conduct the work, as it will be done in a much more satisfactory manner. The Committee would also like the Beautification Committee made aware of this issue as well as alerting the Police Community Resource Office to assign officers to these areas to aid in the apprehension of these violators. As an Advisory Committee, we sincerely ask that this issue be addressed. Sincerely, Transportation and Parking Committee
