SUBJECT: I-95 Ramp Closure
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to inform you of the upcoming full closure of the
ramp connecting southbound 1-95 to State Road (SR) 112 / I-195 /Julia Tuttle Causeway. The
contractor for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six will close the ramp
continuously beginning from 12:00 midnight on Thursday, January 7, 2010. The ramp will remain
closed until 5:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2010.
FDOT has implemented the following detour route for all eastbound motorists who would otherwise use
the Julia Tuttle Causeway to access Miami Beach:
• Exit southbound I-95 at NW Stn Street
• Turn left (east) on NW 8th Street and proceed underneath I-95
• Turn left (north) on NW 3rd Avenue and continue straight onto northbound I-95
• Proceed north on I-95 to the eastbound I-195 /Julia Tuttle Causeway exit Ramp
1-395 / S.R. 836 / McArthur Causeway will also be available as an alternate eastbound detour route
during this closure period.
FDOT will place advance notice detour signs at various locations in Miami-Dade and Broward counties
and along the Florida Turnpike. FDOT will also provide police support at key intersections throughout
the detour, such as at the off-ramp at 79th Street, to ensure motorist safety. FDOT will coordinate with
the County Traffic Signal and Signs Division for traffic signal optimization to improve traffic flow and
reduce delays.
A traffic advisory on the upcoming ramp closure will be placed on the City's website with a direct link to
FDOT's 95 Express Project website. The ramp closure will not conflict with any major special events in
Miami Beach, such as the Pro Bowl on January 31, 2009, the Super Bowl on February 7, 2010, or the
Miami International Boat Show from February 11-15, 2010. City staff will continue to coordinate with
FDOT to ensure minimal impact to traffic in Miami Beach and to ensure the public is kept thoroughly
informed.

95 EXPRESS RAMP CLOSURE
IMPORTANT NOTICE
The contractor for the 95 Express Closure will close the Southbound I-95 flyover ramp to
eastbound I-195/Julia Tuttle Causeway from 12:00 midnight Thursday, January 7, until 5:00
a.m., Friday, January 15, in order to complete various work as part of the 95 Express project.
This ramp will remain closed continuously throughout this period.
During this closure, motorists will be detoured as follows:
• Exit southbound I-95 at NW 8th Street
• Turn left (east) on NW 8th Street and proceed underneath I-95
• Turn left (north) on NW 3~d Avenue and continue straight onto northbound I-95
• Proceed north on I-95 to the eastbound I-195 /Julia Tuttle Causeway exit Ramp
Please note that S.R. 836 / McArthur Causeway also serves as an alternate eastbound route to
Miami Beach.
