SUBJECT: Cade Compliance Division
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) Is to announce a change In the reporting
relationship of the Coda Compliance Division.
As you may recall, the Code Compliance Division was part of the Neighborhood Services
Department Since the elimination of the Neighborhood Services Department, the Code
Compliance Division has continued to report tiredly to Assistant City Manager, Hilda
Fernandez. During this time, and during the tenure of Greg Tindle as the Director of the
Code Compliance Division, there has been much progress in the operation of the tl'rvision.
With Increased Interest in quality of life Issues, and a greater focus on accountability and
performance, It is essential that the Division have the necessary administrative support to
perform are high level. Concurrently, we have seen many improvements In the operations of
the Building Department over the last 18 months since we brought Alex Rey on bead.
Although we still have a lot more work to be done in both areas, I believe that both areas will
benefit from the synergy generated by working under one umbrella, including the ability to
share administrative processes that are common to both these areas. As such, I am re-
aligning the Code Compliance Division as part of the Building Department's organizational
structure. Greg will continue to serve as Code Compliance Director, providing the necessary
administrative oversight of this important City function.
I believe that Greg and Alex working together will continue to Improve both areas and
maximize opportunities whenever possible.
