SUBJECT: Community Education regarding the FY 2010/11 Budget
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to inform you about several activities the
Administration has undertaken to educate the community on the upcoming FY 2010/11 budget
process.
As you know, as part of her Mayor on the Move, Mayor Bower has included a section solely devoted
to discussing the City's financial forecast and upcoming budget process. Dates for these Mayor on
the Move sessions have been set through July 2010.
In addition, a new workshop that has been developed through the Miami Beach Leadership Academy
LEEP program (Leadership Extended Education Program) and which has been designed to continue
educating the community on the FY 2010/11 budget process as well as educate the public on
governmental accounting practices and budget planning.
The City of Miami Beach "Budget Boot Camp" will be held on Monday, April 26, 2010 from 6:00 p.m.
to 8:00 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers. Commissioner Weithorn will be presenting
information on governmental business and accounting practices, followed by my budget discussion
and standard question and answer session.
The current Miami Beach Leadership Academy class and Alumni will be invited to attend, as well as
disseminated to our residents and community groups.
I hope you will be able to join us as we work to continue to educate our community on the upcoming
budget.
