Dear Matti
I am grateful to you and the other members of the Commission who have
shown their confidence in me by appointing me to the Historic Preservation Board. I
have enjoyed my service on the Board and I hope that I have been of use in that
position.
I regret that I have come to the conclusion that I should resign my position
on the Board, effective the appointment of my successor. I have come to this
conclusion after much thought and consultation with people whose judgment I
respect, including members of the City Attorney's staff.
This review of my relationships with professionals likely to come before the
Board has determined that I have not had nor would be likely to have any conflicts of
interest. However, I have come to believe that one relationship, with my co-author
of a book recently published, does create the appearance of a conflict of interest.
For this reason, and out of my great respect for the integrity of the Board and
the entire historic preservation process and movement, I am tendering my
resignation from the Historic Preservation Board, effective upon the appointment of
my successor by the Commission.
Thank you, again, for your support of me personally and for your support of
. the ideals of historic preservation we share.
