SUBJECT: Public Meeting -Relocation of Route ~ 15y117 to Pine Tree Drive
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform you of an upcoming public meeting to solicit
input on a proposal to relocate the Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) Bus Route 115/117 from Sheridan
Avenue to Pine Tree Drive, from 26th Street to 46th Street. The meeting will be held on Wednesday,
September 29, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. in the City Manager's Large Conference Room, 4th Floor, Miami
Beach City Hall.
MDT has historically located bus routes along Sheridan Avenue. The current MDT Bus Route
115/117 utilizes 30-foot, diesel minibuses that operate Monday through Sunday from approximately
6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. with a frequency of 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the time of day and
week. At the request of residents, MDT conducted an analysis of the operational impacts associated
with relocating Bus Route 115/117 from Sheridan Avenue to Pine Tree Drive. The results of the
analysis concluded that its relocation to Pine Tree Drive would be feasible, since the one (1) block
relocation to the east would not provide a significant impact to transit passengers. The bus stops,
however, would need to be located slightly farther apart on Pine Tree Drive than currently located on
Sheridan Avenue.
The relocation of Bus Route 115/117 would also require the construction of concrete sidewalk
connectors and landing pads at certain locations along Pine Tree Drive in order to comply with the
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These ADA connectors would enhance the safety and
accessibility of the bus stops for disabled transit passengers. MDT is currently assessing the
estimated cost for this work.
The public meeting will be held to solicit input and suggestions from the public on the merits of the
proposed relocation of Bus Route 115/117. MDT representatives will be present at the public
meeting to provide information on the proposed locations of the bus stops, the required ADA
improvements, and to answer attendees' questions.
