SUBJECT: Work Day To Construct the Mid-Beach Community Garden at Pinetree Park
This Letter to Commission is provided to cordially invite you to join the Mid Beach
Community Garden Committee, other residents of Miami Beach and the team from the Parks
and Recreation Department on Sunday, September 26, 2010, from 9:00 A.M. -12:00 P.M.
to help build the Mid-Beach Community Garden at Pinetree Park, 4400 Pinetree Drive.
The Mid-Beach Garden will join the North Beach and South Beach Victory Gardens as our
third community garden, providing our residents with a place to grow their own food. The
Mid-Beach Garden~is a capital project funded in FY 2010 for $40,000. The Parks and
Recreation team has been working with residents who have formed the Mid-Beach Garden
Committee to layout the garden and its operational guidelines, as well as coordinate the
efforts of this work day. As is the process at the City's other two community gardens, the
Garden Steering Committee will oversee the daily operation of the garden and the City will
provide the required support.
Garden Members and supporters are invited to come and assemble their garden plots and
fill them with garden soil in preparation of the upcoming season's planting. Volunteers are
requested to wear old shoes and clothing, and provide their own garden gloves and
sunscreen. Rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other supplies will be provided by the City.
Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Attached, please find the site plan and new sign for the new Mid-Beach Community Garden.
As of today, 67 of the 90 garden spaces have been assigned by the committee.
