City Commission with the attached Resolution approved by the Board of Directors of the Miami-Dade County League of Cities (MDCLC). This MDCLC Resolution is consistent with the direction provided by the Mayor and City Commission, and it urges .Miami-Dade County to implement °. comprehensive amendments to its parking fines and urges the Florida Legislature to . amend the Florida Statutes in order to increase penalties for various parking violations. ' Consideration of this Resolution by the MDCLC was requested by the City of Miami - Beach, and the item. was .placed on the MDCLC. Board of Directors Agenda by MDCLC " Secretary Deede Weithorn. In the meantime," please do not hesitate to contact me if you need further information. - JMG/HF/kc RESOLUTION NO. 2010-5 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE NIIANII-DADE COUNTY LEAGUE OF CITIES; INC. URGING MIAMI-DARE COUNTY TO IMPLEMENT COMPREHENSIVE AMENDMENTS TO ITS PARKING FINES AND URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO AMEND THE FLORIDA STATUTES IN ORDER TO INCREASE -STATE PENALTIES FOR VARIOUS PARKING VIOLATIONS. WHEREAS, the parking fine schedules utilized by the State of Florida and Miami- Dade County are not commensurate with the gravity of illegal parking offenses nor the costs of enforcement; and WHEREAS,- Section 30-388.32 of the Ivliarni-Dade County Code sets forth the schedule for various parking offenses such as hazardous parking and willfully obstructing streets, as well as other parking violations that create unsafe and hazardous conditions or otherwise impede the orderly flow of traffic and the provision ©f adequate parking; and WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade County Code currently provides penalties ranging from $18.00 to $33.00 for parking violations which do not adequately reflect the of these offenses and are not in keeping with the increasing costs of enforcement; and WHEREAS, the penalties for illegal parking offenses in the State of Florida, set :.forth in the Section 3 18.18 of the Florida Statutes, similarly do a~ot reflect penalties that are adequate given the seriousness of these violations and the costs of enforcement; and WHEREAS, the matter of inadequate parking. fines. is bf concern to all citizens in 1 Miami-Dade County, therefore, municipalities and agencies in 1Vtiame-Dade County .are urged to support an increase in County and State Ernes far parking violations. RESOLU'FION'2010-6 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Directors of the Miami- . Dade County League of Cities, Inc., that the Miami-Dade County League of Cities, Inc. herby urge the Florida Legislature and the Board of County Commissioners for Miami-Dade County to increase their parking fines to reflect penalties that are fiscally appropriate and reflective of the gravity of illegal parking offenses, as well as municipalities and agencies in Miami-Dade County are also urged to support an increase in County and State fines for parking violations.
