Gonzalez, City Manager , DATE: October 26, 2010 Crl SUBJECT: FY 09/10 After School Enrollment and 2010 Summer Overview This Letter to Commission is provided to share with you information regarding ourr_-after.choof program for the last school year and the results of our recent summer camp program. 3 co This past year our after school program, which operates Monday through Friday from 2 -6 pm, had an average of 1,061 participants enrolled quarterly, up from the previous year when we averaged 893 quarterly participants. Our afterschool children receive homework assistance; partake in physical fitness and various games to keep healthy and fit; and also participate in a handful of many other enrichment and social activities. Practically all of the children are provided with free transportation from Biscayne, Treasure Island, South Pointe, Fienberg Fisher and North Beach Elementary Schools, along with Nautilus. Middle and Miami Beach Senior High School. The City provided 86% of the quarterly participants (915) with full or partial scholarship. This summer, our summer camps serviced 2,398 campers. Among many other activities, campers were able to enjoy swimming, ice skating, and of course their yearly participation in the Playground Revue. Of these participants, 1,408 were day campers, 81% of which (1,143) received full or partial scholarships. The other 990 children registered for one or more of our 23 different specialty camps offered this year, including Jr. Lifeguard, Beach Bum, Kayak, Marine Biology, Fishing and all sports, just to name a few.
