SUBJECT: City of Miami Beach Named a Finalist for Whole City Award — The International
Awards for Liveable Communities
The purpose of this LTC is to advise you that the City of Miami Beach has been chosen as a
finalist for the Whole City Award as part of the International Awards for Liveable
Communities (LivCom).
The LivCom Awards were launched in 1997 and are endorsed by the United Nations
Environment Programme. LivCom is non - political, embracing all nations and cultures, and
represents over 50 countries within the program. LivCom is the world's only awards
competition focusing on best practice regarding the management of the local environment.
The objective of LivCom is to improve the quality of life of individual citizens through the
creation of `liveable communities'.
The finalists for each of the award categories have been invited to make a 40 minute
presentation covering how their community embodies a "liveable community" through their
efforts in the following categories: Enhancement of the Natural and Built Landscapes; Arts,
Culture and Heritage; Environmental Best Practices; Community Participation and
Empowerment; Healthy Lifestyle; and Strategic Planning. A small delegation will travel to
Chicago, IL from November 4, 2010 through November 8, 2010. In addition, an invitation
has been extended to stakeholders who can help the delegation share best practices in the
six (6) categories, with travel expenses at their own expense.
The City of Miami Beach is a finalist in Category D (population 150,001 — 400,000) along
with the following communities:
• Dongcheng District, Beijing, China
• City of lvano-Frankivsk, Ukraine
• Odense Municipality, Denmark
• City of Riverside, USA
• Suncheon City, South Korea
• Tallahassee, USA
