This Letter to Commission is intended to provide the City Commission with an update Q1 sorrle uoming
I Art in Public Places projects. , -r, O
This is a particularly exciting time in the City's Art in Public Places Program, as several projects are being
completed and occurring simultaneously.
• Wendy Wischer's Liquid Measures located at the southwest corner of Washington Avenue and .
Third Street has just been completed. The City has scheduled the ribbon cutting for Monday,
- November 29, at 11:00 a.m. and the information has been added to your calendars. We hope you
' can join us next Monday at the location.
• Brian Tolle's Tempest located in Collins Park at the corner of Collins Avenue and 21 Street is
having final inspections and is expected to be completed before Thanksgiving. The ribbon cutting
will coincide with the ribbon cutting of the park, which is scheduled for December 12 • The date
has been held on your calendar, and additional information on this event will be provided to you in
the near future. However, in light of the fact that many international journalists will be in the City for
Art Basel Miami Beach beginning on December 1 the City is working with the artist to schedule
some interviews and tours of the piece to promote this new addition to the City's public art
program. I encourage you to visit the piece when you are in the area, in particularly in the evening
when the piece is lit.
• The City recently completed a restoration of Roy Lichtenstein's Mermaid located adjacent to the
Fillmore Miami. Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater. In a desire to ensure that this valuable art
piece is maintained consistent with the artist's intentions, a professional art restorer was secured to
manage this process. •
• The untitled piece by Charles O'Perry located at the Scott Rakow Youth Center (SRYC) has been
fully restored and will be reinstalled at the SRYC after Thanksgiving. The piece was moved to
accommodate the expansion of the Rakow, and we used the opportunity to address restoration
needs for the piece. We will celebrate the restoration when we celebrate the official reopening of
the facility; a date for the celebration is pending.
Lastly, 1 am sure you have also noticed the Pink Snails around the City. This is a temporary public art
i installation by the Ca' d' Oro Art Gallery and the Cracking Art Group.
{ All of these projects were executed with the highest level of professionalism, and we should all be very
pleased with these great additions to our public art inventory, and how this enhances the aesthetic beauty
i of our city.
