SUBJECT: Results of the Public Meeting for the Proposed Relocation of Route 115/117 to Pine
Tree Drive
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform you of the results of the two (2) public
meetings held to solicit input on a proposal to relocate the Miami -Dade Transit (MDT) Bus Route
115/117 from Sheridan Avenue to Pine Tree Drive, from 26 Street to 46th Street.
The first public meeting on this issue was held on Wednesday, September 29, 2010; however, that
meeting was not well attended due to a tropical storm warning issued for Miami Beach as well as
Jewish holiday which fell on the date of the meeting. City staff received email correspondence from
several residents who were interested in attending the meeting, but were unable to attend because
of this holiday.
The second public meeting was scheduled to allow all impacted residents an opportunity to provide
input and . comments on the proposed bus route relocation. This meeting was held on Thursday,
November 4, 2010. An MDT representative attended the public meeting and provided a
presentation on the proposed locations of the bus stops and the required ADA improvements, and
answered all of the attendees' questions.
There were approximately forty -two (42) members of the public in attendance (Attachment A). The
majority of the comments issues at this meeting were in opposition to the proposed bus route
relocation. Of the thirty -one (31) comment cards returned, twenty -nine (29) opposed and two (2)
were in favor of the bus route relocation. City staff also received numerous email correspondence
from residents, the majority of which was in opposition to the proposed bus route relocation.
Based on the results of the public meetings and the correspondence received from affected
residents, the Administration recommends terminating the initiative to relocate Bus Route 115/117
from Sheridan Avenue to Pine Tree Drive.
