This Letter to Commission is provided to inform you of past and upcoming events provided by our
Parks and Recreation Department.
Social Club Thanksgiving Dinner - On Saturday, November 20 The Margaret M. Swett Social
Club (for developmental disabled adults) hosted their Annual Thanksgiving Dinner at North Shore
Park and Youth Center from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Over 65 clients and their families attended this •
special feast to give thanks for many special blessings. There was a traditional Cuban style dinner
consisting of turkey, pork, black beans, rice, maduros, yucca and tamales.
Youth Duathlon - On Saturday, November 20 The City of Miami Beach Parks & Recreation
Department hosted its second of three challenges this year for youth athletes. Twenty amazing
young endurance athletes, ranging from ages -5 — 17, challenged themselves at Flamingo Park.
.- The athletes competed against themselves and others in the course comprised of al mile run -100
yard swim - 1 mile run. Our last challenge of the year will be on December 11 (1 mile run — 200
yard swim — followed by a' /2 mile run).
Washington Dog Park - On Saturday, November 13 The City of Miami Beach called all dogs for
a lifetime of fun! Washington Dog Park, located at 2 and Washington Avenue celebrated their
Grand Opening PAwty. The Washington Dog Park is our newest and most dog friendly site yet.
With the support and involvement from the community, the park became a reality.
Safe Night of Fright - On Sunday, October 31 the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation
Department held their annual Halloween - Safe Night of Fright at the North Shore Park and Youth
Center. Over 1,900 ghouls and goblins enjoyed a safe night of trick -or- treating, with live music and
endless amounts of free candy, popcorn and other goodies. The young ghouls and goblins got their
"BOO -GIE" on to the enjoyment of parents and friends, along with playing games for prizes and
- treats.
Social Club Halloween Masquerade - On Saturday, October 30 The North Shore Margaret M.
Swett Social Club (for developmentally disabled adults) held their annual Masquerade Ball at the
North Shore Park and Youth Center.
Movie in the Park - On Friday, October 22 the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation
Department hosted "Movie in the Park" at the Normandy Isle Park & Pool under a beautiful Miami
Beach sky. Approximately 170 movie goers enjoyed the 2010 version of "The Karate Kid ".
Hamburgers, chips and beverages were available along with crunchy popcorn.
