SUBJECT: NATPE Television trade show and welcome reception .
This Letter to Commission is provided to inform you that beginning this Sunday, January
r d , and running through Wednesday the 26
,23 , the Television industry's top executives and
producers from around the world will descend upon the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach,
to participate in NATPE (National Association of Television Program Executives). This is
NATPE's first return to Miami Beach since 1994, having been primarily in Las Vegas ever
since. In addition to booking the entire hotel (in addition to the Eden Roc and Grand Beach),
many satellite events will take place throughout the City.
Hosting a major trade show with such key entertainment industry decision makers is a coup
for our community, especially in light of the success of locally produced television series,
such as "Burn Notice," "The Glades," "Jersey Shore Season 2, Khourtney -& Kim,Take
Miami and "Bad Girls Club Miami", as well as previous successes "Top Chef Miami," "Miami
Ink," and, of course, "Miami Vice." It also comes just as Florida's new $242 Million film and
entertainment incentive, which this Commission supported, is luring new television work to
our. area, including "Magic City" for Starz, "Charlie's Angels" for ABC and a spin -off of
"Bones" for Fox.
_.The City's -Film Office has taken an active role in NATPE's "host committee" with Miami-
Dade County and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau. In addition to
participating in booth space with Film Florida to promote the destination, the City, along with
these partners and Venevision, is a host of the "Welcome to Miami" reception Sunday,
January 23, from 6 to 8pm at the Eden Roc. The reception will feature a performance by
Oscar de Leon. In addition to industry executives and other local dignitaries, an invitation
has been sent to the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, who was instrumental in passage
of the film and entertainment incentive. If you wish to attend this event, you must RSVP to
