SUBJECT: "Step Up 4" Filming in Miami Beac
This Letter to Commission is intended to provide you information regarding a new film
production. On August 22nd, the feature film "Step Up 4" began filming in Miami Beach. The
fourth installment of the successful teenage dance series, it will be the first 3D project shot in
Miami Beach. The producers, some of whom are coming off of "Rock of Ages," which just
completed filming in our area, have chosen many Miami Beach locations for the film,
including the following:
• Eden Roc Hotel — August 22 -29. Filming will occur primarily inside the hotel. The
production will park work vehicles in the two northeastern bays of the 46 Street lot,
but will move these vehicles to the spoil area with police escort over the weekend for
public use while they are not filming. The production has obtained approvals from
the Fontainebleau and Eden Roc, whose employees comprise the majority of regular
lot users, and the Mimosa condominium to the north.
• Nikki Beach — August 30 -31. Filming daylight scenes in the beach club and beach
area without high volume activity. The neighborhood associations and directly
affected buildings will be notified.
• Soundscape, the New World Symphony and Lincoln Lane North — September 1.
This will require closure of Lincoln Lane North with approvals of affected businesses.
• 1111 Lincoln Road — September 7 -9. Filming a flash mob sequence in a created
cocktail party on the 7 Floor. This is not an event and will have contained lighting
and sound. The Lincoln West neighborhood will be notified of all production details.
• Temple House — September 19 -20. Filming inside to recreate a dance studio. All
residential filming guidelines will be maintained to ensure compliance, including
required approval from affected residents.
• Ocean Drive, 13 Street — 14 Court — September 26 -29. The opening scene of the
film will be a flash mob that breaks out during a traffic jam on Ocean Drive. This will
require closure of these two blocks during daytime only for four consecutive days. All
businesses, the Ocean Drive Association and the North Ocean Drive Resident
Association have been notified.
The schedule is subject to change depending on weather or other scheduling conflicts.
While the production and the City will work to minimize disruption and manage any issues
that arise, any complaints that may come in will be addressed immediately. This film, like
"Rock of Ages" and the many television series filming in our community, is here because of
the Florida Film and Entertainment Tax Credit, creating hundreds of jobs and boosting local
busines- a d hotel revenue in this typically down period.
