SUBJECT: Miami Beach Parks & Recreation "Website" Receives State Award
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to inform you that on September 1, 2011, the
Parks and Recreation Department was awarded the Media Excellence Award from the Florida
Recreation and Park Association (FRPA) for its website, www.miamibeachparks.com, at their
Annual Conference, held in Orlando, Florida.
During the award ceremony, the FRPA, a statewide non - profit organization representing local
government parks and recreation interests in the State of Florida, highlighted information about
the website via a PowerPoint Presentation that stated the following:
"The advantages of the Parks and Recreation website, amongst many other things, include
being an important resource to their community in order to become more involved with their
various activities and events. Also, the website creates an increase in awareness of special
events and grand openings, a portal to showcase their programs through a virtual web gallery,
download or print registration and rental forms, access current and archived press releases and
downloadable forms that can be printed and filled out at home prior to coming in and registering
for a program."
Jackie Comptis, Recreation Program Supervisor and the website's maintenance coordinator for
the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation, accepted the award on behalf of the City.
