Gonzalez, City Ma ger DATE: October 19, 2011 SUBJECT: Miami and the Beaches Environmental Film Festival` This Letter to Commission is to advise you that the Miami and the Beaches Environmental Film Festival ( MBEFF) is taking place in Miami Beach from October 20 — 23, 2011, and to invite you to attend two particular events partially sponsored by the City. The four -day festival will take place at various signature venues in the City, including The Colony Theater, Miami Beach SoundScape, the New World Center and the Miami Beach Cinematheque. More information on particular screenings and other festival events can be found at www. mbenvironmentalfilmfestival .org and a full schedule is attached foryourease of reference. More particularly, as part of their Festival, MBEFF has also forged a working partnership with the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ), which will be hosting their annual conference in Miami -Dade at that same time, granting exposure to 1,000 of the world's top environmental journalists. A private SEJ media event and screening for 200 of that media will take place at the New World Center, with the World Premiere of the Screening 'of My Father, the Captain: Jacques -Yves Cousteau. Jean - Michel Cousteau and other family members will introduce the never - before -seen family footage. As a co- sponsor for the evening, the City will be presenting to these journalists on our current sustainability efforts. This screening and the presentations will begin at 9:00 pm on Friday, October 21, 2011. Immediately after the presentations, at 9:30 p.m., there will be a screening of the j environmental art film "Koyaanisgatsi: Life Out of Balance" at the ExoStage at the ' SoundSca e. The City is sponsoring this screening as well as placing the Recycling P Y� P 9 9� P 9- � Educational Vehicle provided by Coca Cola as part of their partnership with the City, on site for the general public. Refreshments will also be provided by Coke. Complimentary tickets to the SEJ event on Friday at 9:00 pm are available for the Mayor and Commission at the check -in desk at the'New World Symphony and must picked up by 9:30' p.m. The event at the SoundScape is free and open to the general public. Tickets to the opening night screening at 7 :00 pm on October 20, at the Colony Theater are also available. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
